- [Instructor] Stock valuation is a key part of figuring out if a stock is a good investment for you. If you buy an overvalued stock, you're likely to lose money. If you buy an undervalued stock, you're more likely to gain money. Buying undervalued stocks and holding them for the long run can quickly help you to increase your net worth. Let me show you what I'm talking about. I'm in the 02_03_Begin Excel file. Now, what I've done here is created just a simple little valuation model for us. The valuation on our stock is simply equal to our expected dividend, that is what we think the dividend will be over the coming year, divided by our required rate of return, minus the growth rate. The required rate of return is how much we need to earn on this investment, given its level of risk, and the growth rate is how fast that company is growing, say sales or top line figures.
