- [Instructor] The secret to turning a resource on or off, such as making a warehouse or distribution center available for a specific month comes from a formula called a linking constraint. Linking constraints use binary variables which must take the value of zero or one to force any facilities that handle products to be open. In this movie, I will start to outline a solution for just such a scenario. My sample file is 03-02_Outline and you can find it in the chapter three folder of the Exercise Files collection. In this workbook, I have a worksheet that contains a variation of the problem that we have used in chapter one and chapter two. In this case, it is a straightforward transportation problem except that we have our total demand of 3,325. But rather than requiring all of our distribution centers to handle the volume, it turns out in this scenario, that any two of the distribution centers will have the capacity of 3,400…
