Equitable leadership
- What is the role of leadership in ensuring equitable outcomes? Leaders must become power brokers. Leaders have a sphere of influence that can ensure sustained change. Power brokers by definition, deliberately affect the distribution of political or economic power by exerting their influence in their own organization and with others in their circle. How else can leaders be power brokers? They can share or redistribute power so that those who are most impacted by inequities are a part of the decision-making. Equity requires redistributing power. In an earlier video, I highlighted MidPen, an organization that develops affordable housing in the San Francisco Bay Area. Their leadership included the Diversity Council of Employees from every level of the organization in the development of the organization's strategic plan.
