Use stories as an engagement technique

- Why should you include stories in the design of your instruction? The answer is because stories are great tools for conveying messages, illustrating consequences of action, and are capable of holding the learner's attention far longer than words on a slide. In other words, stories are engaging. Here are several examples of when I like to use stories in my design of instruction. This is not an exhaustive list, but it will help you to get started. I like to use stories to help in three ways. The first is to create an emotional connection between the learner and the content. For example, a good way to engage healthcare workers in training is to provide a story about how a healthcare provider was able to save a child's life or how the dedication and hard work of a similar healthcare provider cured a sick mother.
