San Francisco: From obscurity to centrality

- [Interviewer] It's fascinating, you know? The history of Silicon Valley. It's not a long history in the grand scheme of thinking about where humans have been. But it's a really important history that wants to be told. It was interesting in your book to hear the story about when design became important in the consideration of technology, and how technology was created. Could you just introduce us to that moment of like, what was happening? What time in history and what was happening? What were the big players at the time? - [Interviewee] Some years ago, maybe a decade ago or so, one of my friends, his name is Gerard Furbershaw. He's one of the founders of what was then Lunar Design and is now McKinsey Design because everybody has been bought.
