- [Instructor] Now that you have some exposure to the basic concepts of tidy data, let's spend some time talking about common problems that appear in untidy datasets. I'm going to cover the basic issues that arise and then give you a conceptual idea of how to solve each of them. We won't dive into the R code to resolve these situations just yet, but we're going to get there later in the course. In his paper on tidy data, Hadley Wickham groups data problems into five categories, and we'll use those same categories in this course. The first one is datasets where the column headers contain values instead of variable names. The second is datasets that store multiple variables in a single column.
