- [Instructor] Now that you understand how to generate basic visualizations with ggplot, let's move on and talk about some of the ways that you can customize those visualizations. We'll begin by modifying one of the most common parts of a visualization, the background. Now the term background is actually a little bit misleading because there are several different components that make up the background of a plot in ggplot. Together, all of these components are called a theme, and we'll talk about the elements of a theme that make up a background. We'll do this using the bar chart shown here that we developed in an earlier video. It shows the number of schools in each region and separates them by whether they're public schools or under private control. Now here's a much more hideous version of this chart.
