课程: Construction Management: Project Delivery Methods

Welcome

- Construction is a large and very diverse industry. We build new and unique projects all over the world in a continual effort to improve our living conditions and meet our evolving needs. Construction and contracting methods certainly vary throughout the world, but the method by which construction companies get hired has traditionally followed a common scheme, no matter where the project's located, and we refer to this as the common design-bid-build way of getting a project built, and until recent years, this has really been the way that most construction projects are delivered. My name's Jim Rogers, and I've been fortunate enough to be in the construction industry at a time when project delivery methods are evolving and moving out of that traditional design-bid-build scheme, and into alternative delivery methods that recognize the expertise and the professionalism of today's modern construction companies. In this course, I'll discuss the design-bid-build method of project delivery, as well as some of those alternative methods, including design-build, construction manager at risk, and IPD, or integrated project delivery. If you're a project owner, you should recognize that you have different methods to choose from to suit your needs and goals. If you're a general contractor, you need to understand the impact that each of these methods has on your company. As this course progresses, we'll take a look at these impacts. I'll talk about how risk is shifted, depending on the delivery method, and what changes each of the parties is going to need to be prepared for. We'll also discuss how alternative project delivery methods are improving conditions in the industry. Some of these changes are really driving the need for knowledgeable construction management professionals, so let's take a look and see how this information can affect you.
