课程: Construction Management: Planning and Scheduling

What you need to know

- Let me go over a little bit about of what I'll cover in this course, and talk about a few related topics that we cover in other courses. This is a course on construction, planning, and scheduling. It's really meant for somebody that is at least somewhat familiar with the construction process. If you're new to construction, you might benefit from jumping over to my Construction Management Foundations Course here in the online library. In this course, I'll talk about the planning process. And then I'll demonstrate how to generate a construction schedule. I'll primarily demonstrate and describe a scheduling concept known as the President's Diagramming Method or PDM, and it's use to arrive to what's known as the Critical Path in a construction schedule. I think this is the most widely used method in the construction industry today and it's the concept that most of the construction scheduling software programs utilize when they generate a schedule. This particular course though, is not a software course. We have those too. And I will show you how some of the concepts I discuss look when they're plugged in to Microsoft Project. But, this is not a course on how to use all the functions and features in that software. Consider this course the first step. This is where you learn the difference between planning and scheduling. It's where you learn how to link activities to form a schedule. And it's where you learn about some of the important impacts the proper scheduling can have on a construction project. Now that you know what to expect, let's get started.
