- Lean is absolutely a continuous improvement process. It will not succeed if you treat it as a set it and forget it process. At Toyota, individuals in charge of work areas or individual processes are encouraged to identify waste on a constant ongoing basis. Waste that's continuously reported so that it can be analyzed to find a strategy for elimination. Construction's no different. In order to successfully implement and utilize this theory of lean productivity in construction, we need to also develop and maintain a system of continuous improvement. You will not find all the waste that can be eliminated in your first go around, and your strategies for eliminating the waste you do find won't always work the first time. In addition, we are in a period of rapid technology development. Technology that we'll be continuously identifying as potentially benefiting our construction processes.
