- [Instructor] Sentiment analysis is an interesting and subjective part of natural language processing. Sentiment analysis provides insight into the emotional content of a document. The concept is easy. A dictionary of terms, or words, is weighted as to their meaning or sentiment. That dictionary is then compared to a source document. Each word in the source document is given a score and the cumulative score indicates the sentiment of the document. There are several dictionaries tailored for different types of documents. For example, the Rauh is tailored for the German language. Loughran McDonald is focused on EDGAR 10-K financial reports. Dictionaries are nothing more than lists of words with positive or negative values. Some dictionaries contain extra dimensions beyond just negative or positive connotations.
