Four steps to soliciting criticism

- Let's talk about how to solicit guidance, both praise and criticism, but especially criticism. First, figure out what questions to ask. I recommend what questions such as, what could I do or stop doing that would make it easier to work with me, or what's working and what could I be doing better? But don't write down those questions, 'cause if you sound like Kim Scott and not like yourself, people won't believe you want the answer. These questions suggest an open mind to learn what others think and observe. I was working with Christa Quarles when she was CEO at Alludo. And when I gave her my question, what can I do or stop doing, she said, "The question I like to ask is, tell me why I'm wrong." Okay, that's fine, too. The point is that this question has to sound like you, and it shouldn't be able to be answered with a yes or a no.
