- Volume is the lifeblood of your voice. Really, it is. It adds so much more zest to your communication. Now, when it comes to volume, I also look at volume as having a scale of one to 10, where one is whispering (whispering) and then 10 is being obnoxiously loud. (shouting) Sorry to those of you wearing earphones. This is one of the vocal foundations that many of my students struggle with. Many of my students, when they come to me, they tend to speak with a default volume around a 2 or 3 out of 10. Whereas you want to be at least around a 5 out of 10 at minimum. When you have strong levels of volume, it helps you come across with more, one, confidence, two, authority, three, vitality, four, enthusiasm, and five, it helps show people that you believe in what you are saying.
