- When Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away, over 100 of her former clerks flew into Washington DC to stand in formation on the steps of the Supreme Court. They wanted to pay their final respects and someone organized this touching tribute. How did they plan this and get the word out? Turns out, Justice Ginsburg had a list of all of her former clerks and every five years held a clerk reunion. Former clerks spanning several decades would come together, hear some speeches, and socialize a network with one another. Many of those one-time clerks became judges, attorneys general, and solicitors general. When Justice Ginsburg passed away, an email to the clerk Listserv was sent out with the plan. The group of clerks is called a community of practice, but really, it applies to any group that shares something in common.
