- You may remember a wave of news stories years back in which piracy was an especially big concern in parts of the world, such as the Red Sea, the Horn of Africa, and the Indian Ocean. That year, there were 329 pirate attacks reported around the world, and they were starting to spike in those waters. Pirates don't go after someone because they're American or because of nationality. They aren't interested in your country or mission. They just want your money. There are thieves at sea with a little to no allegiance to ideologies or territories. Yachts are especially vulnerable to the theft in certain seas. We tow expensive boats about 100 feet behind us, so all a thief needs to do is get in the right time and clip that line. I never to allow guns on board and never will. Being overly aggressive or reactive is rarely a good strategy.
