- [Scott] While it's likely we know about our server's hardware because we've just planned and built it, and the same goes for the operating system we just installed, we can use a variety of tools to explore information about the hardware and software on the system. There's a group of commands to show particular kinds of system information, or to output all the information about the system. And I'd like to show this to you. The first one I'd like to show you is lshw, short for list hardware. This gives us a detailed output of the system's entire hardware tree, and it can be useful for troubleshooting and for conducting a survey of a system's hardware. I'll pipe the output of this into less, so we can scroll around more easily. Notice how the information is presented in a tree-like structure of hierarchy.
