- [Instructor] File sharing is a common rule for a standalone server, whether it shares files stored on its local hard drive or it shares files stored on other attached media. This is a common scenario for a media drive on a home server or for the quick implementation of a shared workspace in a small organization. Samba, which takes its name from SMB, or Server Message Block, is a protocol for resource sharing that comes from Microsoft. It's been around for a long time, and because it has implementations on all major operating systems it's, kind of, the standard for cross-platform network file sharing to this day. Some platforms also refer to SMB as CIFS, which can be a little confusing. Here, on our server, we can install the software required to provide Samba file sharing with apt install samba. Once Samba is installed, I'll need to edit its configuration file to make changes. I can find that at /etc/samba/smb.conf.…
