- [Instructor] A server is highly dependent on its network connection. And it's a good idea to know how to monitor network activity. In this video, we'll take a look at a few tools we can use to understand what's going on when it comes to the server's network connection. One useful tool is called iftop and I can install it with apt install iftop. When it's installed, I'll open it up. Iftop shows activity for the first external interface it can find, in this case my onboard ethernet adapter, though you can specify an interface to watch with the -i option. It shows each connection to other hosts and what the data transfer rate between the host and the remote system is. We can find help by pressing H and here I can see that I can change the display, for example, showing or hiding the source or destination ports with capital S or capital D.
