- [Narrator] Snaps are packages that can run on many different Linux distributions. And they're increasingly a large part of the Ubuntu software experience. A Snap is a self-contained file system with an application inside it, which runs on top of a base which is a foundation of software that provides whatever connection to the system the software and the snap needs in order to operate. To learn more about how snaps work and how they're built, take a look at snapcraft.io To interact with and manage snaps, we use the snap program. Snap has a variety of commands it accepts to do various tasks. And we'll take a look at a few of the basics here. The first one, find, lets us search for a package or a snap by name or description. We'll use snap to install some services later in the course. So for this video, we'll just use and manage a basic snap called hello. which when it runs says hello world. So to find that I'll write…
