You can vary the color or contrast of one thing to create an interesting focal point. Perhaps everything on the slide is gray scale or monochromatic. You can change the color of one object, either a full color photo or maybe a bright accent. A great way to introduce variety in a presentation is by interspersing a series of predominantly light slides with darker or full color background with white text.
