Create training and development opportunities using AI

- I hear from managers all the time, "I want to help my team members develop." Of course you do. But as a manager with limited time, you might fall into the trap of giving most of your attention to top performers who you see as having potential while your middle of the road performers feel left out, or you spend time with new team members because you think your experienced team members know what they're doing. But those experienced team members wish they could get time with you too. The good news is we can use AI to create practical frameworks to understand and support each one of your team members' unique needs. The first step is to ask questions. So pause the video and go to your ChatGPT window and ask a prompt, "How can I ask team members about their development goals?" The output will likely give you ideas on how to have the conversations and example questions to ask. You can tailor these talking points to your own voice or even prompt something like, "Give me five more questions", to ask to grow your list further. You can also ask ChatGPT to adjust questions for team members for different tenures, or roles, or unique goals. I'll show you exactly how to do that. What's a role that you are hiring for or recently hired? Ask ChatGPT a prompt, create a training and development plan for a new hire in insert role. I'm going to say entry level social media coordinator. Now, look at the results for your role. As you look at them, you may want to get more specific, especially if they're entry level. So ask, what are a list of questions that this new hire could ask colleagues inside and outside of the team in their initial meetings? Don't you wish you had this for your first job? Me too, but you are doing something every new hire wishes for, you're paving the way for your team members to get integrated into the team more quickly. Okay, what about your other team members? What if you're making management look so good that they're interested in it, even if they've never managed anyone? Ask another prompt, create a development plan for an employee who's interested in becoming a manager. You can add additional detail like their current role and their tenure, and it will generate a plan that you can use to truly set them up for success. As you look at the training and development opportunities, you may need help understanding how to put them into action. So pick one it generated and ask, how can I best support my team member in insert? For example, if you asked about finding a mentor for an employee, ChatGPT would give you practical steps to do that. Not just telling the team member, go find a mentor. Can you imagine showing up to a meeting with your manager and they've put this level of thought into you? In just a few minutes, you can create unique development frameworks that can change the trajectory of your team members' careers without spending all hours of the day and night creating them from scratch. This is what leveraging AI is all about, using scalable tools and common questions to help your team members as individuals. But broader career conversations are one thing, and the day-to-day tasks you need to delegate are another. If you've held off on delegating, you won't after watching this next video.
