- Today, I'm going to walk you through how to visualize continuous distributions using strip plots, which emphasize simplicity and are very easy to understand. And this makes them a good choice if you want to present basic distributional information to non specialists. You might see them in marketing material or basic business presentations. Strip plots are very similar to histograms in design, but they visualize data as a series of stacked dots against a single magnitude axis. Let me show an example using average January temperature data in the United States. This is a basic strip plot. It looks very similar to a horizontal histogram, the key aspect being the stacked dots. Each dot actually represents a single data point from this temperature dataset, and this is the main feature of a strip plot.
