- In this lesson, I'm going to share with you what radar plots are and how you can use them. Radar plots are often used in situations where many groups need to be compared. You might know them from sports data, where players' attributes are compared. Like pie charts, radar plots offer a circular visualization of categorical data. But compared to pie charts, radar plots excel at plotting many categories, whilst pie charts tend to be limited to a handful of categories. A key advantage is that you can make comparisons between many groups quickly. Here is a basic radar plot. This radar plot visualizes the size of US state populations. Radar plots consist of a sequence of equiangular spokes. Each spoke represents one discreet category of whatever you're looking at.
