- What do you do when you have to plot and analyze many continuous distributions? Histogram and density plots are limited in how many distributions they can credibly plot on one graph. But if you need to plot 10 or 20 distributions, then you need to use multiple box plots. And in this lesson, I'm going to show you where box plots excel and how to use a combination of density and box plots. Box plots have real power in comparing many distributions across groups. Let me show you what I mean. This graph here really highlights the strength of box plots. This visualization compares the temperature distribution of January and July temperatures across nine different regions in the United States. So in total, there are 18 distributions plotted on this one single graph. You can quickly determine that July temperatures are higher than January temperatures.
