Using AutoCAD drawings through AutoCAD Web
- [Narrator] So here we are on the AutoCAD Web webpage. And as you can see, the branding is very obvious. It's Autodesk AutoCAD, but as they say, it's AutoCAD, but anywhere. So you can now get quick access to your CAD drawings with the web app. And notice, you've even got a QR code down here to download the mobile app if you want to as well. Now we're going to use AutoCAD Web for convenience 'cause it's on my PC in my browser. I'm using Microsoft Edge Chromium, by the way. You can also use Google as well. There are other browsers out there, but there could be limited functionality with those. Just be aware of that. So what we're going to do is we're going to sign in. So now prompt me for my email, like so, there's my email. Click on Next and I'll pop my password in and click on Sign In. You can obviously stay signed in if you use your PC all day, every day, and it's private to you. So this is all based around your Autodesk account credentials. Now you'll notice, again, it's a subscription tool and it's letting me know that as a customer, it's extended my discounted price on AutoCAD Web. So that's basically because obviously, I use AutoCAD Web a lot and I get a discount because obviously, I buy lots of licenses of it. Now, if you are working in a big corporate organization, obviously there's different price points for things like AutoCAD Web and AutoCAD Mobile, especially if you've got lots of people working on site, you might need lots of licenses of AutoCAD Mobile. Always talk to your Autodesk reseller about this and see what packages you can get. Don't just buy one license after one license after one license. There are different pricing tiers for web and mobile if you need extra licenses. I'll just click on Okay to that. So what it does now is it lets me know if there's any new features. So I can see a preview of the features from the last several releases. I'm not too worried about that, but you can go and check them out if you want to. I'll close that for the moment. Now, you'll notice I've got various options here. I can create a new drawing, I can upload an existing file, I can create a new folder. I can look at recent drawings, and surprise surprise, there is my drawing there. That's my recent drawing. AutoCAD Web is there, which is all my AutoCAD web and mobile folders that I save that file to. I also utilize OneDrive as well. So OneDrive isn't connected at the moment. That's because it's a new PC. So I could sign in and use my OneDrive account if I wanted to. Be aware as well, I'll go back to AutoCAD Web, I can add other storage sources as well. We've got Autodesk Docs, Autodesk Drive, Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, and also you can access your local files, perhaps from a server or perhaps even another cloud-based repository like Box or Dropbox or Google Drive, et cetera. So there's all these different storage sources that you can use. The cloud gives you an incredible amount of mobility. So I'm just going to close that. Make sure I'm in AutoCAD Web and I can use Recent, which is a new feature in AutoCAD Web. And there's my file that I saved only a moment ago. So if I click on that, that will now open that up in a browser. Now, this is where it gets incredibly cool. I'm a bit of a techie geek, and I absolutely love what goes on with the technology with AutoCAD Web. You'll notice it's still AutoCAD, but slightly different. You've got all the AutoCAD technology. You've got things like your layout tab is there with your title block. You've got your OSNAPs here, like so. You've got OTRACK, ortho, polar, you've got your settings here. Snap and grid can even be turned on if need be, like so. So the technology is all there. Notice you can download the mobile there. You can open it in the desktop AutoCAD, if you've got that open as well. You can also share the file to people. Now, what I love about it is you're starting to see a ribbon across the top of the screen. Now, you can see where this is going with a web-based version of AutoCAD. As technology advances, we'll probably be using AutoCAD Web all of the time, but you've got things like your layers. Your blocks are there as well. You've got any xrefs that might be attached. And we've also got this thing called traces, which I'll go into in a little while. You've also got activity insights. That's a beta version at the moment, so please ignore that. I am a beta tester for AutoCAD, and I've signed an NDA, so I can't really talk about that one, but as you can see, it's a very, very cool piece of web-based technology. Now, what I'm going to do is jump back to the Model tab. And what I love about this is I can zoom in and out, just as I would in the desktop AutoCAD. I can click, release the mouse button, there's my blue window selection, hit Escape to deselect, click over here, drag the other way. There's my crossing selection. The technology is exactly the same. I can click on an object, the grips appear. I can click on a line or a dimension, and you'll notice that the grips appear, like so. One of the nice things as well is if I go to Properties here and click on something, it'll change. So it's letting me know that that is a dimension on a certain layer, and there's all the properties of it, like so. Hit Escape, deselects it, goes back to the object properties and remembers the last object selected. But you've got loads of AutoCAD commands as well. You've got things like rectangles, arcs, splines, you can annotate, you can modify. So the technology is there for you to use AutoCAD in a browser. So you might go to a client site and instead of getting your laptop out and waiting for it to boot up and so on, you can just say, "Oh, can I jump on your computer?" Jump onto their browser, log in, as I did, and there's the drawing for them to look at straight away. So the technology is incredibly cool with AutoCAD Web and the collaboration tools with these traces here are even more clever, and that's what we're going to look at in the next video.
