- Many teams work like they're an ancient Greek warship. These ships skimmed the waterline and had dozens of oars along each side. The teams of oarsmen would row in a rhythm. Each side would coordinate in realtime. They didn't have time to reflect on the direction or improve the process. Each person would just sit down, grab an oar and start rowing. There's no debate, no consensus. Agile breaks this pattern by running retrospectives at the end of every two week sprint. A retrospective is the scheduled time when the team sticks its head up and looks around, to look for the project's weaknesses. You can use this time to ask questions. Are there ways the ship can move faster? Do we need to change course? Like the warship, there are only a few people who know the big picture.
