Solution Architect - Cloud Platform

At GreatAmerica, technology is a key driver in delivering value to our customers. To that end, we seek a highly skilled Cloud Architect to work with our platform engineering team that specializes in technical solutions for the servicing of our financial products. The Cloud Architect will be an individual contributor who will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable and reliable cloud solutions that leverage event-driven patterns to enhance our platform's performance and resilience. You will work closely with our development and IT teams to create and implement cloud-based systems that will meet and exceed our customers’ needs.

This role assists business and technology leaders in leading cultural change for cloud adoption. They will help shape GreatAmerica’s strategic vision and technology processes. To this end, strong relationships with GreatAmerica business leaders, other teams within technology and our outside technology partners is essential.

As a Solution Architect - Cloud Platform, You Will

Solution Architecture and Innovation

• Design and develop cloud systems according to company needs and objectives
• Architect cloud-based application, product and platform architectures with reusable patterns like microservices, event driven techniques and containers.
• Collaborate with other IT teams on complex projects
• Foster a test and learn mentality to innovate through proof-of-concept and prototype delivery, enabling the engineering teams to deliver innovative solutions quickly.
• Manage and monitor cloud systems to guarantee optimal performance
• Assist with cloud migration and other relevant IT projects
• Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in cloud technologies
• Create and maintain the architecture artifacts, including architecture reference diagrams and architecture pattens.
• Collaborate with other solution architects and engineers to ensure alignment and integration of the solutions across different products and business domains.
  
  

Strategy & Planning

• Develop business and technology architecture standards, procedures, and policy in conjunction the other solution architects and engineers.
• Participate in the enterprise architecture review board and ensures that the solutions are compliant with target-state architecture models and innovative techniques.
• Assist in new product and vendor evaluations, proof-of-concept and prototypes.
• Partner with product, platform and data teams to ensure appropriate monitoring, analyzing, and managing technical operations strategies are in place to ensure optimal performance and system health
• Consults with product/platform teams to fit solution designs to enterprise architecture, as well as to identify when it is necessary to modify the enterprise architecture.
• Conducts research and evaluation of emerging technology, industry, and market trends.
• Advise product and platform teams regarding refactoring needs of applications for cloud deployment and building cloud native applications.
• Works on highly complex solution architecture that require in-depth knowledge across multiple specialized domains.
• Collaborates with product management, business architecture and engineering leaders to ensure progress towards architectural alignment with product goals and requirements.
• Participate in budget processes to ensure objectives are achieved within fiscal expectations.
  
  

To Be Successful In The Role You Will Need

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, computer engineering, system analysis, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  
  

Knowledge & Experience

• At least 5 years of experience as a Cloud Solution Architect or similar role.
• In-depth understanding and experience working with cloud computing strategies and architectures, such as AWS, Google Cloud or Azure.
• Experience with architecting cloud-based solutions and application/product architectures with reusable patterns like microservices, containers, etc.
• Familiarity with cloud security principles and practices.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• 2 years of experience implementing using Agile and Scrum methods in a product-oriented organization at enterprise scale.
• Demonstrated experience working with product owners, software engineers, data architects, application developers & data scientists to plan enterprise solutions.
