Senior DevOps Engineer - contract position

We have a unique opportunity for a contract Senior DevOps Engineer to get in on the ground floor and help us design and build cutting-edge cloud-based infrastructure to support our software solutions.

The Opportunity

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will consult and contribute to business process improvements of IT policies, procedures, tools, security controls, and infrastructure. You will also conduct research and Proof of Concept activities and provide recommendations for new technologies, techniques, and tools to add value by increasing efficiency while improving service quality. You will report to the Head of Architecture and DevOps and will work closely with members of the product and technology teams.

The Day-to-Day:

• Design and manage scalable and resilient cloud infrastructure and automation tooling for routine operation tasks
• Participate in team activities such as peer code reviews, design collaboration efforts, and rotating on-call process
• Use automation, configuration management and deployment tools to provide cloud-based solutions
• Work with solution architects, software engineers, and business partners to confirm that developed solutions align with existing standards, meet security controls and cloud computing best practices
• Develop tooling and associated processes to improve automation, efficiency, consistency, and adherence to security and audit requirements and controls
• Manage implementation and the ongoing operation of cloud services following approved designs, adherence to patterns, security requirements and certify all logging and monitoring are active for security and compliance
• Investigate and monitor current-state cloud usage, solutions in use, risks, gaps, limitations and recommend solutions, optimizations and remediation
• Maintain comprehensive and systematic configuration, lifecycle and security management of servers
• Ensure cloud services and toolsets are deployed with best practices and documentation
• Drive the definition and execution of the Cloud infrastructure roadmap.
• Contribute to driving and refining the technological architecture of platforms on the cloud.
• Drive the implementation of highly performing and scalable services.
• Ensure our consumer-facing cloud infrastructure is resilient, scalable, available and fully supported with on-call rotation 24/7.
• Ensure the product engineering team is fully and effectively supported during the development lifecycle.
• Ensure adherence to security and compliance requirements.
• Drive cost optimization across the entire platform.
• Provide both mentorship and technical leadership to the team.

Your Qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience in IT Infrastructure cross-platform technology areas, with implementing and maintaining expertise
• 5+ years of experience building, deploying and managing public cloud (AWS preferred) IaaS and PaaS services
• Experience building an automated cloud infrastructure across Prod and Non-Prod environments
• Scripting and automation of builds, workflows, tasks, and other integration aspects using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tool sets including (e.g. AWS CDK (preferred), Ansible, Puppet, and Chef)
• Linux server administration
• In depth knowledge of Kubernetes (EKS or Fargate preferred) and AWS Services, in particular Compute, API Gateway, and Storage services
• Development experience using Java, Python, Ruby programming language.
• Experience with DevOps tools such as Jira/ Confluence/ Jenkins/ GIT/ ROBOT/ Selenium WebDriver.
• In-depth experience of CI/CD pipelines (Bitbucket Pipelines preferred) and best practices for continuous integration and deployment, Helm 2 and ArgoCD
• In-depth experience with architectural patterns for high-performance, distributed applications on the Cloud
• Experience with current SRE/DevOps best practices
• Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as CloudWatch
• Familiarity with the AWS well-architected framework
• Demonstrated experience in leading a team
• Strong communication and presentation skills
