R&D Electronic Technician
Summary:
The R&D Electronic Technician tests, troubleshoots, and repairs electronic and mechanical assemblies at the component level, including those used in low-volume production of electronic biomedical equipment. Using various test equipment (meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, in-circuit emulators), you will ensure products meet quality standards through precise, hands-on work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Board Assembly, Programming & Testing:
- Assemble and program printed circuit boards (PCBs) and execute functional tests.
- Load Assemblies with firmware and software.
- Perform functional verification and acceptance tests on board and subassembly test fixtures.
- Troubleshooting & Repair:
- Diagnose failed circuits and repair boards at the component level.
- Document and report repair data and trends.
- Equipment Operation:
- Operate electronic test equipment effectively.
- Use hand tools for assembly tasks, including soldering, desoldering, and manipulating fine gauge wires.
- Process Improvement:
- Recommend improvements to manufacturing test fixtures to enhance yield.
- Identify recurring issues and communicate trends to supervisors.
General Duties:
- Follow production material control procedures.
- Maintain and organize lab space and parts inventory.
- Assist in the low-volume production of electronic biomedical equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent soldering and desoldering skills (both SMT and through-hole).
- Proficient in using electronic test equipment: power supplies, digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and flying probes.
- Strong ability to read and interpret electronic schematics, drawings, and assembly instructions.
- Skilled in handling small parts and fine gauge wires, with excellent manual dexterity.
- Ability to understand Python is a strong plus.
- Effective communication skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex circuits (analog, digital, power supply, high voltage) and recognize issues that require supervisory intervention.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in troubleshooting and repairing electronic circuit boards.
- Experience with surface mount and through-hole board assemblies.
- Familiarity with common electronic components (resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, ICs, etc.).
- Associate Degree in Electronics or equivalent experience (minimum 5 years).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
