The Manager of Retail, Tanning, and Club Operations Support plays a pivotal role in ensuring retail excellence, optimizing tanning services, and supporting new club openings across the Crunch Fitness network. This individual will manage product selection, vendor relationships, and inventory processes to drive retail revenue while also overseeing tanning equipment setup, maintenance, and compliance training. Additionally, they will support club managers and regional directors in operational excellence, ensuring each new club is equipped, staffed, and prepared to meet performance objectives. This position combines retail and procurement expertise with strong operational support to enhance both member experience and revenue streams.
Responsibilities:
Product Selection & Vendor Management
· Develop and implement retail and tanning strategies that align with brand standards, focusing on products such as supplements, lotions, eyewear, apparel, and beverages.
· Establish and maintain vendor relationships, negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms to maximize cost-effectiveness.
· Stay current with market trends to introduce relevant products and phase out underperforming items.
Inventory & Procurement Management
· Oversee the procurement and inventory process across all clubs, adjusting stock levels based on sales trends and seasonal demands.
· Implement an inventory tracking system to maintain optimal stock levels, reduce waste, and improve turnover.
· Conduct weekly retail inventory checks with support from club managers, placing necessary orders to ensure continuous product availability.
Financial Analysis & Budgeting
· Conduct pricing and profitability analysis to set competitive retail prices that align with company goals.
· Track retail and tanning sales and monitor budgets, preparing reports to inform and refine purchasing strategies.
· Collaborate with finance and operations teams to ensure alignment with overall financial objectives.
Club Operations Support, Training, and Compliance
· Partner with Regional Directors and General Managers to set operational goals for new locations, ensuring appropriate staffing and equipment for successful launches.
· Support club reinvestment efforts by assisting with equipment updates, facility maintenance, and vendor coordination to maintain high standards in all clubs.
· Ensure retail and tanning products comply with company standards and health/safety regulations.
· Conduct regular assessments of retail displays and tanning equipment setups to maintain an attractive, safe, and organized environment.
Tanning & Hydromassage Setup and Compliance
· Oversee tanning and hydromassage installations from lease signing to post-opening, including equipment installation, maintenance, vendor management, and compliance checks.
· Set up all tanning health spa certificates and documentation needed to establish tanning in new club locations.
· Create training content and partner with Regional Directors of Operations and Field Training Specialists to conduct quarterly tanning and retail training sessions to ensure compliance and proficiency in sales scripts and product knowledge.
· Manage tanning equipment calibration, signage setup, and re-lamp schedules, updating necessary tracking software (SunLync) to ensure accurate maintenance records.
Retail Marketing & Team Collaboration
· Work with marketing and club operations teams to plan retail promotions, seasonal offers, and product placements that drive sales.
· Coordinate in-club demos and promotions with vendors to increase member engagement and product awareness.
· Train club staff on product knowledge and retail sales techniques, empowering them to effectively engage members and boost retail revenue.
Strategic Ordering & Inventory Management
· Oversee the ordering process for retail and tanning products, adjusting inventory levels based on sales trends, seasonal demands, and club-specific needs to avoid over- or under-stocking.
· Implement and manage an inventory system that provides visibility across all clubs to maintain ideal stock levels, reduce waste, and improve turnover rates.
· Ensure timely order processing, shipment tracking, and delivery coordination, resolving any vendor or logistics issues efficiently.
Financial Analysis & Budget Management
· Lead pricing and profitability analysis to set competitive retail prices that maximize revenue while delivering value to members.
· Monitor budgets, retail and tanning sales performance, and profit margins, and prepare regular financial reports with recommendations for improving purchasing strategies.
· Collaborate with finance and operations teams to align purchasing strategies with overall company financial goals.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Retail Management, or related field; an MBA or equivalent is a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in retail purchasing, inventory management, or a similar role, preferably in the fitness, health, or wellness industry.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and negotiation skills, with a proven track record of managing vendor relationships.
- Analytical and strategic thinker with expertise in financial analysis and inventory planning.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage product flows across multiple locations.
- Proficiency in inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
Personal Attributes
- Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable to changing market conditions.
- Passion for health, wellness, and fitness, with in-depth knowledge of products common in health clubs a plus.
