General Description

The Lead Dental Assistant at Evara Health plays a critical role in leading the dental team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality dental care, and maintaining operational efficiency within the clinic. This position involves advanced clinical responsibilities, team leadership, and the coordination of clinic operations. The Lead Dental Assistant provides guidance and mentorship to other dental assistants and ensures adherence to best practices and regulatory standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership and Team Coordination:

  • Serve as the primary contact for Dental Assistants, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure consistent and high-quality patient care.
  • Lead daily huddle meetings to discuss patient schedules, operational concerns, and areas for improvement.
  • Facilitate the training and onboarding of new Dental Assistants, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform effectively.
  • Promote a positive and collaborative work environment by addressing workflow challenges and patient care issues promptly and effectively.
  • Coordinate with dentist and assist in training of students/externs from partner training programs during their rotations.

Advanced Clinical Support

  • Provide chairside assistance to dentists during complex dental procedures, including operative, preventive, periodontal, endodontic, prosthetic, and oral surgery.
  • Ensure the delivery of aseptic dental care by adhering to strict infection control protocols and maintaining a sterile clinical environment.
  • Perform advanced dental tasks such as fabricating temporary crowns and bridges, applying sealants, taking impressions, applying topical fluoride, coronal polishing of teeth, placement/removal of restorative matrix, placement/removal of gingival retraction devices, removal of sutures, and placing temporary restorations.
  • Obtain diagnostic radiographs and provide comprehensive oral hygiene instruction to patients.

Patient Care Coordination

  • Schedule and coordinate patient appointments, ensuring that treatment plans are followed and patient needs are met efficiently.
  • Review and update patient medical histories, ensuring that all relevant information is considered in dental treatment plans.
  • Present and explain treatment plans, including financial estimates, to patients, parents, or guardians, ensuring they understand the procedures and follow-up care required.

Operational Management And Compliance

  • Assist in the management of clinic inventory, ensuring that dental materials and supplies are adequately stocked and organized.
  • Lead the monthly inventory process and assist in the procurement of dental supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with Evara Health’s HIPAA, HRSA, state, federal, and accreditation agency regulations.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and clinic operations.

Mentorship And Training

  • Act as a mentor and resource for junior Dental Assistants, providing ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • Ensure that all Dental Assistants adhere to clinic policies, procedures, and best practices in patient care.
  • Provide support in the development and revision of clinic policies and procedures to meet current healthcare standards.

Technology And Documentation

  • Demonstrate efficient use of electronic health record (EHR) systems for patient documentation, scheduling, and other daily tasks.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technology-related issues within the clinic independently.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient interactions, treatments, and clinical findings in the EHR.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited Dental Assistant Program.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a Dental Assistant, with a proven track record in leadership or team coordination roles.
  • Successful completion of the Evara Health Lead Dental Assistant Pathways Training and Competency evaluation.

Licenses, Certifications, And Registrations

  • Current Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification required.
  • Current Dental Assistant (DA) certification preferred.
  • Current CPR (BLS) certification required.

  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to lead a team effectively.
  • Advanced clinical skills and proficiency in performing complex dental procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on patient care and team collaboration.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and dental software for clinical and administrative tasks.
