American Geotechnical & Environmental Services (A.G.E.S.), Inc. is a qualified Small Business and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) specialized in providing geotechnical design services. The company headquarters are located in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania with branch offices in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania and McLean, Virginia. A.G.E.S., Inc. has grown to be one of the largest specialty geotechnical consultants in northeastern United States with a strong focus on providing geotechnical engineering services on public infrastructure projects. The majority of our geotechnical investigations and reports have been completed in accordance with DOT design manuals and we are familiar with FHWA and AASHTO design requirements. We have provided geotechnical design services for over $11 billion of construction, with over 250 multi-lane miles of interstate and highways and more than 2,500 bridges ranging from new multi-span dual structures to the rehabilitation of single-span bridges. Our projects have been performed in extremely varied geology resulting in a wide variety of geotechnical hazards, including deep and shallow mining, industrial / contaminated sites, thick glacial soils, steeply dipping bedrock, indurated clays with low shear strength, active solutioning, poorly defined rock / saprolite, acid rock drainage, and coastal plains deposits. We have a strong understanding for project schedule and cost, with innovative solutions for minimizing construction cost and time. The company employs a staff capable of efficient design and large workload, and provides effective recommendations for subsurface investigations that maximize cost savings and reduce uncertainty and risk. We understand the importance of communicating geotechnical concerns to the entire project team in order to allow for proper use in overall design, and pride ourselves in our ability to address complex geotechnical issues while working with both owners and specialty geotechnical contractors

American Geotechnical & Environmental Services, Inc. performed geotechnical design as a subconsultant to CDR Maguire (CDR Companies) on the Interstate 84 Section 282 project for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), which includes various foundation types to support the new bridges. Solveig Sahlin, P.E. and Siavash Vahidi, Ph.D., P.E. in our King of Prussia office have been providing consultation and on-site support for CDR and PennDOT during construction of the micropile, drilled shaft, and driven pile foundations. The overall project is scheduled to be completed in 2026 and will replace the dual mainline bridge carrying Interstate 84 over Roaring Brook and the active Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad and construct a new right exit to State Route 435 with a flyover structure. Recently, Adam Madar, P.E. of American Geotechnical & Environmental Services, Inc., joined around 20 other members of the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) Southwest Penn for a highway cleanup in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Together they picked up litter along US 119 in the area of Bute Road to support the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Adopt-a-Highway (AAH) Program. The AAH Program, along with the Adopt and Beautify Program, are volunteer-led efforts managed by PennDOT, which help to maintain clean roadways on over 9,000 miles of roads within Pennsylvania. The group got together after the clean-up event to share stories and enjoy each other’s company.

Construction is well underway for the Mon/Fayette Expressway, Section 53A1 project in Southwest Pennsylvania. The $214 Million new roadway project extends approximately three (3) miles and includes over four million cubic yards of excavation and the construction of six bridge structures. American Geotechnical & Environmental Services, Inc. provided geotechnical design as a subconsultant to TranSystems for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission on this project. This photo is taken near the new dual bridge structure over Brickyard Road, State Route 51, Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway, Peters Creek, and Peters Creek Road, which utilizes several foundation types on the various substructures, including micropiles, drilled shafts, and driven piles. When construction of the overall PA Route 51 to I-376 Project is complete, the Mon/Fayette Expressway will connect Interstate 68 near Morgantown, West Virginia, to Interstate 376 in Monroeville, Pennsylvania.

The Hawk Falls Bridge carrying Interstate 476 over Mud Run is starting to take shape. The open-spandrel deck arch bridge will replace the existing deck truss bridge on a new alignment to the east with an overall span length of 720 feet at a height of 200 feet above the valley. American Geotechnical & Environmental Services, Inc. provided geotechnical design as a subconsultant to Modjeski and Masters for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission on this project. The project also includes approximately one mile of roadway reconstruction and another bridge over State Route 534 (Hickory Run Road). This photo captures the bridge under construction from the Hawk Falls Trail within Hickory Run State Park, a scenic trail that enjoys views of rhododendrons and waterfalls.
