Position Overview:

We are seeking a Controller who thrives in a hands-on, tactical role and values meaningful contributions to the company's success. In this role, you'll oversee payroll, financial transactions, and the company's QuickBooks accounting system, while identifying opportunities for operational improvements. This position will also evaluate processes to explore the potential adoption of a new HRIS.

This is a full-time position (Monday to Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM) based at our office in Louisville, KY. The work environment is primarily office-based, with rare instances of off-site meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Financial Management:

• Oversee financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies.
• Record daily financial transactions and maintain accurate financial records using QuickBooks.
• Monitor cash flow and assist in financial risk management.

Payroll and Time Tracking:

• Process payroll using QuickBooks, ensuring accuracy and compliance with tax and labor regulations.
• Oversee time tracking and address discrepancies promptly.
• Generate payroll reports and ensure timely submission of tax filings and benefits contributions.

Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR):

• Process and post AP and AR transactions.
• Reconcile AP and AR ledgers with general ledger accounts.
• Manage timely invoice payments and collections.

Reporting and Closing:

• Prepare and post journal entries.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
• Reconcile bank statements and generate financial reports, including profit and loss statements and balance sheets.

Operational Efficiency and System Evaluation:

• Evaluate current financial processes and identify areas for improvement.
• Research and recommend the implementation of an HRIS to streamline payroll and time-tracking processes.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

• Maintain compliance with payroll tax regulations, state and federal labor laws, and internal company policies.
• Provide documentation for audits and regulatory reviews as needed.

What We're Looking For:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
• Proven experience in accounting, payroll management, or a similar role.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks (experience with payroll features highly preferred).
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, payroll compliance, and financial reporting.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with advanced Excel functions and data analysis.
• Familiarity with HRIS systems and implementation processes.
• Knowledge of payroll tax regulations and compliance standards.
