Phi Delta Theta General Headquarters is seeking a Controller to collaborate closely with our outgoing Senior Vice President of Finance over the next twelve months, in preparation to step into a strategic financial leadership role. The Controller will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial operations across multiple organizations. This role encompasses oversight of accounting, audits, tax preparation, budgeting, cash management, investments, and financial analysis. The Controller manages key banking and investment relationships, supports governance through board and committee collaboration, and provides leadership to the accounting team. In addition, the position will play a vital role in aligning financial practices with the organization’s goals, driving informed decision-making, and fostering transparency, efficiency, and accountability.

Founded at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, on December 26, 1848, Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity has 189 chapters and emerging chapters and ninety alumni clubs across the United States and Canada. To date, the Fraternity has initiated over 294,000 men into the society whose founding principles are Friendship, Sound Learning, and Rectitude.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Controller to lead our accounting and financial operations, support strategic decision-making, and ensure compliance across all entities.

Duties/Responsibilities

All candidates will be initially assessed on their background and experience in the areas of collaboration, relationship building, initiative, emotional intelligence, problem solving, innovation, selflessness and communication, and in their projected ability to successfully complete related performance metrics in the following:

  • Manage the monthly accounting process, including reconciliations and financial statement preparation.
  • Lead audit preparation, coordinate with auditors, and serve as a liaison for audit committees.
  • Assist external CPA firms in preparing and filing federal and state tax returns and manage regulatory requirements.
  • Develop annual budgets, perform financial forecasting and trend analysis.
  • Oversee cash flow, manage banking relationships, and collaborate with investment advisors.
  • Supervise the accounting team, present financial data to boards/committees, and align financial operations with organizational goals.
  • Provide financial analysis and handle assigned financial and operational projects across organizations.
  • Ensure adherence to GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • 7-10 years in accounting/financial management, including 3+ years in a supervisory role; expertise in audit preparation, tax preparation, financial reporting, and budgeting. Non-profit experience preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage 100), GAAP compliance, investment analysis, and Excel for financial modeling.
  • Proven team leadership, strong written/verbal communication, and ability to present financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Expertise in forecasting, trend analysis, and aligning financial operations with organizational goals.
  • Collaborative, ethical, adaptable, and relationship oriented.
  • Familiar with non-profit tax regulations and state business compliance.
  • Skilled in managing complex projects and balancing multiple priorities.
