College Wrestling Coach

Bechler Leadership is conducting the initial search for the next head men's wrestling coach at Defiance College. The Yellow Jackets will officially join the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) on July 1, 2024 for competition in the 2024-25 academic year and will become full members of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC). 

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Athletic Director, the individual will be responsible for the total operation of the wrestling program. Responsibilities will include all duties normally associated with being the head coach of an intercollegiate wrestling program including, but not limited to recruiting, coaching, budget management, organization of training, practices and competitions, academic monitoring, and other duties as assigned. Additional expectations of this position include mentoring of student-athletes and commitment to their academic progress and degree completion; knowledge of and commitment to all NAIA, WHAC, and institutional rules and regulations; game administration duties; and some departmental and campus committee work/involvement. 

Qualifications

Candidates must demonstrate significant knowledge of wrestling; proven success in coaching wrestling at the collegiate or high school level; the ability to recruit, develop and motivate student-athletes; and a strong commitment to the academic success of student-athletes. The successful candidate must also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and strong leadership skills. A bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) and valid driver’s license are required.
