The Athletic Trainer (Certified) (ATC) shall function across the spectrum of the HP program by providing and facilitating injury prevention, basic acute care, effective rehabilitative care, and performance enhancement. The contractor shall provide qualified personnel to perform the following services in support of the HPO program for AFSPECWAR personnel.

Summary:

The contractor shall provide qualified personnel to perform the following services in support of the HPO program for AFSPECWAR personnel.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide HP services within the ATC’s scope of practice as defined by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).
- Utilize screening information to develop rehabilitation protocol and interventions if needed.
- Assist in the development of the unit’s rehabilitation system in accordance with all local, state, and national laws and regulations, as well as licensing and insurance certification.
- Perform patient tests, measurements and evaluations and record findings to aid in developing and/or revising specifics of the treatment program or training program.
- Participate in periodic meetings with HP staff for reviewing care provided to patients.
- Identify opportunities for improvement.
- Design and fabricate protective pads, equipment, and braces to help prevent and treat injuries, including the use of taping techniques within the ATC’s scope of practice.
- Provide instruction and guidance within the ATC’s scope of practice.
- Serve as an advisor to the unit leadership in matters related to injury prevention, sports medicine, rehabilitation, and bridging.
- Serve as an advisor to the unit leadership for administrative matters, purchasing of supplies and equipment, and supplemental fiscal requests.
- Collaborate throughout the HP program to enhance the quality of squadron member’s care delivered.
- Conduct equipment, product, and literature reviews to ensure currency with the provision of care.
- Participate in quarterly peer (record) reviews for non-privileged healthcare providers.
- Attend and participate in meetings with other HP staff members and medical personnel as requested and/or required.
- Assist the unit leadership in developing and updating criteria-based job descriptions and performance standards.
- Assist the unit leadership in developing and maintaining clinical practice guidelines to ensure consistency of care across the program.
- Assist with the preparation of short and long-term fiscal plans.
- Submit input to the unit leadership.
- Develop and promulgate training materials as requested and required by the unit leadership.
- Ensure safe and effective operation of equipment used for squadron member’s care.
- Maintain all equipment required for providing rehabilitation/pre-habilitation within the HP program to include but not limited to cryotherapy tanks, cold tubs, Garston/scraping tools and cupping equipment.
- Attend required training in accordance with guiding instructions. Squadrons will allow for attendance at necessary conferences or courses to complete continuing education units required to maintain certification.
- Proficiently utilize computers, software, and technologies as required and requested by the squadron leadership and required by AFSPECWAR staff.
- Document care and work performed in the Military’s Electronic Health Record (i.e., AHLTA, GENESIS, etc.) as directed by unit leadership and/or higher headquarters.
- Perform other tasks, within the scope of the ATC position description, as assigned by unit leadership.
- Collect and report all data as requested by the unit leadership and AFSPECWAR staff.
- Capable of meeting physical demands of training with SOF including the ability to hike over rough terrain and function in austere environments to observe SOF training evolutions, the ability to assist with strength and conditioning testing and training protocols, and the ability to lift and manipulate loads or weights up to 20 kilograms.
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to function across the spectrum of the contract and perform duties within the performance or rehabilitation domains.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and injury management.
- Ability to work in fast-paced environments and make quick, effective decisions.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with athletes, coaches, and medical professionals.
- Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple cases at once.
- Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from an accredited college or university and will be National Athletic Trainer’s Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) certified. Maintenance of this certification shall be an enduring element of the requirement. The contractor ATC will provide services within the scope of practice as defined by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA).
- Possess additional credentials as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association or as a certified Sports Performance Coach through the United States of America Weightlifting Association (USAWA).
- A current certification in basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to include Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training.
- Minimum of five years of demonstrable accumulated post-professional experience as an ATC with individual athletes and groups of athletes at the levels of NCAA Division I Collegiate, Olympic, professional sports, and/or Special Operations/AFSPECWAR military members.
- Master's Degree
