Tom Erickson, founding director of CDIS, has announced he will step down from his leadership roles at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in January 2025. Erickson, a third-generation Badger and executive associate dean for strategy and innovation at the UW-Madison College of Letters & Science, has led CDIS since its inception in 2019, guiding the school through a transformative period of growth and innovation. Beginning January 1, 2025, Remzi Arpaci-Dusseau, the Grace Wahba and Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor and former Chair of UW-Madison Computer Sciences, will assume the role of interim director of CDIS. With 24 years as a faculty member at UW–Madison, Remzi’s extensive experience and deep connection to the university will ensure a seamless transition. It was an honor for the Office of Biohealth Industry Partnerships, UW SMPH and BioForward, Inc. to host a visit from the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology (NSCEB) at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health to discuss their forthcoming recommendations. Summer is coming to an end, and with a new academic year starting next week, I'm excited to share some great news! We've been awarded the prestigious NSA Cyber Service Academy Award to develop AI-driven cloud Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) compliance services, integrating AI, AWS GovCloud, Zero Trust, and DevSecOps. This is a collaborative research project led by UW-Stout. We’re incredibly excited about the work ahead, the opportunity to get our students engaged in this cutting-edge, innovative research, and deeply grateful for the chance to contribute to securing the defense supply chain. #cmmc #cybersecurity #innovation #AI
