On national #ManufacturingDay, we salute youth-serving organizations in our grantmaking priority areas for supporting teens in building knowledge and skills that can help them be successful in the workplace and as they further their education. We know when they have these kinds of opportunities and experiences, they are more likely to graduate high school with a plan for what they want to do next and the self-knowledge of why that's the right choice for them. Ending the week on a high note, presenting to future business leaders at University of Missouri-Saint Louis. I may have been the presenter, but I learned as much from them as I hope they did from me. My 2 key takeaways: ? The future is bright. Whether they are studying sales or supply chain, the leaders of tomorrow are serious about working for companies that look beyond the bottom line. ?? Sustainability has a PR problem. The bad news — there are many miss conceptions about what it means to be sustainable. Is it all just stunts to build a brand and attract younger customers? Does being sustainable mean you don't have any negative externalities? Doesn't sustainability just eat away at profit margins? The good news — despite that there is alignment that doing well by doing good is the best business model. #futureleaders #sustainablebusiness
"Your generation will impact the future through your creative problem solving. You have some ideas that you're kicking around in this room and in your minds… don't be shy about those things. As you journey through your career, probe your employers and follow those threads to see where they go. It could be your idea that makes a difference." Global Sustainable Packaging Leader Michelle Bryson answered questions and offered words of encouragement to students during a #sustainability #workshop at the University of Missouri-Saint Louis during its #internationalbusiness Career Conference alongside Sara Burnett of Burnett Strategy and Communications. Thank you Michelle for her continued commitment to the Barry-Wehmiller way of measuring success by the way we touch people’s lives.

The ideas were going well beyond simply showing up for career fairs but really creating hands on experiences and support to career pathing. The ideas in the article below are great to see. It takes multiple facets of support to create the momentum around building future manufacturing skills. Comment below if you see something at your organization or local community that is working! #manufacturing #skilledtrades

A career is not a means to an end. When you are good at something, build a business upon it. Play to your strengths. You will have a better probability of running it successfully. Placement training is my passion. I love every single second standing before those kids to deliver something useful to their career launch.
