Position Summary

This is professional administrative work in the field of air quality management. An employee in this class utilizes scientific and engineering techniques to prepare and present air quality technical analysis for the resolution of air pollution problems. Supervision may be exercised over professional and technical employees. Assignments are received with general instructions and performed in accordance with established guidelines, policies and procedures. The employee is expected to use professional judgment in solving work problems. Work is reviewed by a higher level administrator for scientific acceptability and satisfactory completion of assignments.

Duties

  • Simulates the dispersion of air pollutants by computer modeling.
  • Conducts statistical analysis of air toxics monitoring data.
  • Conveys data and information to professionals and the public using a variety of methods.
  • Communicates with sources of air emissions to collect valid and reliable data.
  • Filter data processing and quality assurance.
  • Evaluates industrial and other source emissions and exhaust parameters and relates meteorological influences to the dispersion of pollutants.
  • Extracts information from permits and other documents, calculates exhaust flow parameters, identifies the source-to-atmosphere relationships, recommends control strategies, and writes technical documents.
  • Assists with emissions inventories.
  • Conducts validations of quarterly monitoring data.
  • Assists in all aspects of developing State Implementation Plans, including coordinating citizen advisory groups, writing air quality regulation proposals, and preparing technical and administrative documents.
  • Writing air quality regulations and taking the regulations through the regulatory and public comment process.
  • Assists in all aspects of preparing attainment demonstrations.
  • Assists with developing the regulatory structure for attaining air quality standards through computer modeling of source emissions.
  • Operates and audits advanced air monitoring instrumentation.
  • Reviews source testing documents (protocols, reports).
  • Observes and audits source tests and documents findings.
  • Conducts special study air monitoring projects.
  • Assists in integrating new air monitoring equipment into the network.
  • Responds to Public Health emergencies as assigned by the Health Department.
  • Performs other duties as required or requested.
