Thank you Harris volunteers!

Thank you Harris volunteers!

In 2017 nearly 3,000 Harris employees volunteered 54,000 hours of their personal time. That’s an astonishing figure for a company our size and it speaks volumes about our corporate culture and a spirit of service that strengthens the quality of life in places where we live and work. I believe this creates a solid foundation for our company’s workplace culture.

Our program called Harris Employees Actively Responding Together (H.E.A.R.T) consolidates our wide-ranging volunteer efforts, supports targeted campaigns, and makes it easy for employees to locate opportunities in their communities. Employees can also take advantage of company funded mini-grants that support employee-led projects that match certain criteria.

April is National Volunteer Month, and I want to give a special shout out to all the dedicated HEART volunteers who have given their time and talent to many causes – from meeting basic needs, to helping prepare the next generation of engineers, to enriching our communities with cultural contributions. Your remarkable efforts reflect our company values of integrity and excellence, and are creating a better tomorrow for us all. I’m proud of our company’s and employees’ involvement in our communities.

In addition to supporting employee volunteer efforts and gift matching, we invest in communities through strategic grants – focusing on programs that further STEM education and those that assist our nation’s veterans, service members, first responders and their families.

Our largest charitable campaign each year supports the United Way. I personally enjoy working alongside Harris employees at our food packing event and sharing in the tremendous spirit this event generates. We augment our annual campaign with individual and team volunteer initiatives that provide additional financial support, food and basic hygiene products to families in need.

Thank you to all our HEART volunteers – please keep up the good work. You can learn more about Harris’ corporate responsibility programs here.

On Sunday, I went to the Virginia Veterans Care center to help with Bingo. Having been raised in a military family, married to a Marine and worked in the defense industry my whole career, it felt natural. I lost my father to alzhiemer's so naturally I "watched over" three gentlemen that were mentally impaired and to see their happiness playing a simple game was amazing. I'm glad that Harris provides these opportunities to us.

Nice job, Harris! (Note to self: Remember to log volunteer hours!)
