Yet, this survey suggests alternative career fairs may be most impactful in deterring arms company recruitment, especially for those open to military roles preferring civilian work if equally available. Explaining arms companies' actions may not dissuade committed military recruits but could sway undecided individuals, offering a valuable disruption tactic. There’s a lot of talk about purpose and the importance of having a purpose in building a brand. As a result, some businesses try to ‘find’ a purpose, so that they can reassure consumers that they have a positive impact on the world. It struck me when putting together some business info recently, that at thebestofepsomandewell we truly do have a purpose, and we deliver on it every day, almost without realising. And maybe this is the most ‘authentic’ type of purpose, when you realise that a lot of good naturally comes out of your business, without shoehorning in a purpose or trying to find one. At thebestof we’re all about supporting the local business community, that’s a given. But we also do so much more for our local community that goes above and beyond business. - We sponsor business awards and reward small business winners with a free year of marketing advice, support, and membership - We've heavily supported our local Foodbank and counselling service through promotions, donations, and networking - We run the Epsom and Ewell job fair at NESCOT, connecting local job seekers with local jobs - We've supported Banstead Cricket Club When clients use our marketing services, they are buying into this. “The Military Transition Industrial Complex” Now that’s a new term, but definitely has something behind it. How many companies are making money or shilling resources that supposedly help the “transitioning veteran”? Resume writers, career fairs, networking events - the list goes on. Just like the sketchy car dealerships that show up outside your favorite military base, these resources have popped up everywhere. I’m not saying one is better than the other, but please- do your research. Which ones are actually doing good vs. which ones should be avoided? Interested to see if this is a thing or not.
