We had an incredible time at the inaugural Executive Branch AI Showcase this week! Thanks to many Secretariat CIO champions, our IT partners have made significant progress using our AI Sandbox to build agency-specific AI use cases. Though they are agency-specific, many use cases are repeatable for other business use cases across state government.??? ? The afternoon included presentations from the agencies, a speaking program featuring Chief Technology Officer Bill Cole, and award presentations for the best projects in several categories. Team Massachusetts is dedicated to responsible AI leadership that improves service delivery and access to state government resources and information. Many thanks to our Administration partners, and to AWS for hosting this outstanding showcase of state AI innovation!

We look forward to the Advanced Cyber Security Center conferences each year for bringing Massachusetts cyber leaders together to discuss the most challenging and exciting issues in our forefront. Commonwealth CISO and Chief Risk Officer Tony O’Neill joined a panel to discuss AI governance and risk frameworks. He highlighted the collaborative framework that EOTSS has set for the Executive Branch through the AI Center of Excellence. The AI COE is a hub that provides leadership and guidance on AI usage and adoption. Potential security concerns related to AI can be addressed so teams can proactively mitigate risks and align with existing standards. Recommendations from the COE may include considerations for engaging third-party vendors, and provide best practice documentation that will support the project development. Thanks to Advanced Cyber Security Center (ACSC) for the wonderful collaboration and partnership today!

The Office of Municipal and School Technology (OMST) held its first Cybersecurity Month Informational Session on October 29th. Over 100 participants learned about the OMST offerings, including the 2025 Municipal Cybersecurity Awareness Grant Program that is now open for applications: Grant Program Application. Other highlighted offerings include the Cybersecurity Health Checks and ways for municipal IT directors to collaborate with the state. A preview was given on Active Directory Hygiene from one of our vendor partners on statewide contract vendors. As a result of that conversation, OMST will be scheduling an Active Directory Top Issues & Best Practices webinar. Want to join? Information on these programs will be shared with each municipality and school in the coming week. To get on the OMST email list, contact [email protected]

The Governor's Special AI Task Force met for the fourth time on Friday, this time hosted by Liquid AI. This group, which began its work in earnest early this year, has been working on a report and recommendations to the Governor about how best position our state to be a leader in this emerging field. We are thankful for the hard work of the Task Force, and the over 200 members of the working groups that have contributed to the vital, timely work of the Task Force. We also thank Massachusetts Executive Office of Economic Development (EOED) Secretary Yvonne Hao, University of Massachusetts CIO Michael Milligan, and City of Boston CIO Santi Garces for your incredible work in co-chairing the Task Force along with Secretary Snyder. Stay tuned as we work toward the release of the final report in the coming months!
