In this month’s edition of The Zweig Letter, Safa Kamangar dives into the “Important role of a supporting manager” while working in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry. Mr. Kamangar has found the three F’s of management to be an effective way of leading a team. Management plays a pivotal role in promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning. To be an effective leader, one must be firm, friendly, and fair. Being a firm manager does not mean micro-managing your employees. A good manager will encourage their employees to take ownership and responsibility for their work, rather than micro-managing and limiting their creativity. You must be friendly in your approach: open communication and approachability is very important in the workplace. Your employees must feel able to express their concerns, share ideas, and collaborate with the team. Being a fair manager means equal distribution of work opportunities, recognition, and rewards to your employees. This will establish a level playing field for team members to showcase their skills. Dallas-Fort Worth to Gain $3 Billion in Data Centers from Prime Data Centers Exciting developments are underway in Dallas-Fort Worth! Prime Data Centers is set to revolutionize the region's tech landscape with a substantial $3 billion investment. This move will add six cutting-edge data center buildings, significantly bolstering the area’s technological infrastructure and economic growth. **Project Breakdown:** - **Fort Worth Expansion**: Three expansive two-story facilities near Aledo and Chapin School roads. Each will span 267,000 square feet, with a projected cost of over $1.5 billion. Construction starts in September 2024, with completion expected by early 2026. - **Garland Development**: Another set of three facilities located along Arapaho Road. This part of the project will also cover 267,000 square feet per building, costing more than $1.3 billion. Construction begins in July 2024, wrapping up in early 2026. **Why This Matters:** Dallas-Fort Worth already hosts more than 5.6 million square feet of data center space, and this expansion cements its status as a premier data center hub. We were honored to help organize the Kansas City regional pre-event for Construction Inclusion Week, bringing together industry leaders to raise awareness and foster discussions on the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the construction industry. This event was a collaborative effort with our peers from Kansas City at Clark Construction, DPR Construction, Turner, Gilbane, Mortenson, SMOOT Construction, JE Dunn Construction, and HOK. Our very own Ralph Powell, Director of Community Outreach and Supplier Diversity, presented at this event on the importance of diversity and inclusion in the construction industry. Here are Ralphs 3 key takeaways: 1. We are all at different stages in our journey toward a more inclusive and equitable construction industry. The diverse curriculum offered during CIW helps meet people and teams where they are, driving manageable and sustainable change. Individual commitment and accountability are key to continuous progress. 2. Despite being competitors, everyone in attendance shared a commitment to fostering a more inclusive industry. It's clear that Construction Inclusion Week plays a vital role in making construction an exceptional field. 3. The benefits of inclusion in construction are undeniable—more innovation, better problem-solving, enhanced teamwork, and stronger community relationships. A diverse workforce elevates not just our industry, but the communities we serve.

It's easy to do... Being someone who oversees a Precon Dept., it's easy for me to forget that you can't take on every project. As much as I'd love to be involved with every building going up in DFW, that attitude is just not sustainable nor lucrative. For the client or the company. Knowing when to pull the reigns back and hyper focus on your current obligations is a vital component of being successful as a subcontractor. I'll be honest with you, I am an extremely competitive person. Whether it's sports, games or coming in the top 3 on bid tabs, I'm guilty of always wanting to win. (You folks in Precon know what I'm talking about lol) I think for me personally, it's taking a step back and being upfront with your customers that is most important. Being open and honest about what is realistic given your manpower and leadership flexibility. We've all been stretched too thin at some point and when that happens.. you can't dedicate adequate time, resources or manpower to your obligations. It's a constant battle. But I think we've honed it in here at Live. We're not perfect by any means but we greet every day competitively and productively. #Electrical #ElectricalContractor #Construction #ConstructionIndustry #BuildSmart

"I always recall having an interest in architecturally pleasing buildings. Engineering interest came later in high school." ??What has been your most proud moment as an architect/engineer? "A small project in Loveland, an elderly gentleman was very concerned about cracks in his foundation. I designed the fix and explained it to him." ??Do you remember your first day of college? What was it like? "Hectic, nervous, and fearful of getting lost. The amount of people was alarming, but I made it." ??What is one thing you enjoy doing outside of work? "Watching hockey, and spending time with my family." ??What is the greatest potential for architecture and/or engineering to shape a neighborhood community? "To provide an environment that is inviting, memorable and comfortable."

Check out the timelapse video of our CANSTRUCTION Build for the San Antonio Food Bank's 2024 competition! We were lucky to again partner with HDR this year to bring to life "Bluey and Bingo at the Beach." Over 4,000 cans went into this build this year. The cans will be donated to the Food Bank at the end of the month, and help bring awareness to September's Hunger Action Month. It's amazing watching a team come together and bring these builds to life. An incredible amount of work goes into these builds in order to make build day happen smoothly and in a matter of hours. Brainstorming ideas, researching can sizes and label colors, determining construction feasibility, creating the 3D model to map out layers, budgeting, organizing practice builds and working out problems, purchasing transporting thousands of cans, and ultimately creating a structure that will last a month in a mall - each of these steps share parallels with the work we do each and every day in the construction world. In the end it's all for charity and a volunteer activity, but it's impossible not to see the benefits of participating in these events as a professional. The best part about participating in these events you might ask? When the kids walking through the mall stop and yell out "It's Bluey and Bingo!"
