1MW No. 219: On Life's Real Luxuries, Reducing Complexity, and Slowing Down

Reclaiming Life’s Real Luxuries

What does it really mean to live a life of luxury?

When we think of luxury, we naturally imagine material things. But?luxury isn’t just about fancy homes and fast cars. It’s about living well.

It’s turning off your phone at 6 p.m., like a shop closing for the day.

It’s reclaiming your time to listen, learn,?connect, and create.

It’s the gift of being present and building enduring relationships with the people you love.?

We would be wise to evaluate the nonmaterial wealth in our lives as often as we do our investment and retirement accounts.?

This list of real luxuries by Jade Bonacolta is an excellent place to start.?

  1. Time.
  2. Health.
  3. A quiet mind.
  4. Slow mornings.
  5. The ability to travel.
  6. A house full of love.

Don’t let your pursuit of material luxury rob you of the true luxuries in life—the ones that really matter in the end.

Love this list of real luxuries. It resonates hugely with me, though I'd change number 6 to "a life full of love" and I might change number 5 to "the freedom to learn, create and be inspired".

This is a wonderful perspective! Redefining luxury to focus on relationships, time, and health aligns with a truly fulfilling lifestyle. It’s a reminder that the most valuable aspects of life often can’t be bought, but rather are cultivated through mindful living and intentional choices. Thanks for sharing this thought-provoking insight—it’s a powerful call to shift our focus toward life’s real luxuries.

This perspective on luxury resonates deeply. As Greg McKeown emphasizes, focusing on what truly enriches our lives—like relationships and well-being—can lead to a more fulfilling existence. It's a timely reminder to prioritize what matters most in our fast-paced world.
