I started writing on LinkedIn by chance.
I didn’t have the patience to write long in-depth posts for my blog Way of Living.
Instead, I wanted a platform to post shorter forms of content and hence chose LinkedIn.
And as a freelancer - writing on LinkedIn has been the most lucrative use of my time.
I am back in touch with my writing skills and am getting at least one client lead per week.
So, here are the strategies I am using -
Pitch to Influencers
Go through your LinkedIn feed.
A lot of the posts you see are the ones liked by your connections.
This means if you get an influencer in your domain to like your post - it can gain much more visibility.
So what I am doing is making a list of LinkedIn influencers (anybody who has more than 3000 followers) who pop up in my profile.
And I make an honest and genuine pitch to them.
Like this -
And guess what most of them are reverting back!
Not only are they liking my posts - many of them are commenting as well!
And once they were my connection - they keep interacting with my content from time to time.
So, I also make sure that I don’t ask the same person twice.
Because once is ok - twice is spamming.
And if they really like your content - they will be naturally interacting with it - without you asking them.
Engage - Engage - Engage.
“Engagement feeds engagement.”
Engaging with somebody’s post increases the chances of your posts popping up in their feed.
Like Ashi Singhal said -
“Engage 15 minutes before and after posting your content on LinkedIn.”
Moreover, comments are also a way to showcase your knowledge - for which you get followers, connections and even clients!
But I don’t engage for the sake of it.
I comment only when I have something genuine to say.
Catch the reader's attention in the first sentence.
People are mindlessly scrolling through LinkedIn.
Moreover, there are tons of content out there and people are going to read only ones that are really interesting and valuable to them.
So, I try to catch their attention in the first sentence of the post.
I try to make a connection.
Or even better - I tell them what they are going to get from reading the post!
Like this -
No jargons just simple language.
As Abhijeet Kumar (known as the lazy writer) put it -
“Make sentences that can be read in one breath.”
I try to make the posts easily readable and scannable.
LinkedIn is not a place to show off my vocabulary.
My aim is to just convey what I what to say in a clear and simple way.
No links - Only native posts.
Think about it - no social media company wants their audience to go outside of their platform.
So LinkedIn is naturally going to de-promote your post if you sharing links.
But what do I do if I read a really insightful blog - and want to share it?
I summarise my learning into a post and paste a link to the blog in the first comment.

I also use this technique to increase the reach of my LinkedIn articles. (Something I learned from Issac Thomas)
Don’t preach - Tell a story.
Stories work much better than just posting knowledge.
So, I try to tell a story of how you learned or discovered something.
That makes it much more interesting and relatable to the people.
I also try to give them a lot of examples and evidence (like I am doing in this post.)
Post content that promotes discussions.
My field is comparatively new and it's constantly growing and changing.
So I post my doubts and learnings.
I also tag influencers and ask for their opinion -
I make sure not to tag more than three influencers in the post or else LinkedIn algorithm will mark it as spam.
Rest of them I tag in the comments.
These kinds of content do really well - since they get a lot of comments.
Because LinkedIn values comment much more than likes.
In fact, this is true for any social media.
Value of comments >>>> Value of likes.
Add Images.
According to LinkedIn employees, posts with images perform two times better than the ones without images.
But people are tired of seeing generic images you download from stock websites.
So, I create my own images and try to make it as personal as possible.

How to choose the right images for your post.
Connect crazily!
So, my domain is content and digital marketing.
I connect with anybody who shares interesting content in this domain.
This exposes me to more knowledge and also gives me a chance to engage with more content.
So keep building your network.
Time of Posting.
Content is definitely the ‘Queen.’
But posting at the right time surely gives the edge.
So, post at the time when your audience is online.
I mostly post in the 9AM-12PM corridor.
Be Consistent.
Consistency is the key to winning the race in any social media.
An average of five followers per day - is 150 per month and 1800 per year!
I try to make one post every day and one article per week.
But at the same time, I make sure I don’t spam the audience.
I post only when I have something genuine or new to tell the world.
Promote outside LinkedIn.
I share my post as WhatsApp status and Instagram stories (if it's generic content).
I also promote my post on a Whatsapp digital marketing community that I am part of.
Hashtags.
I use three hashtags - as this is the optimum number suggested by the LinkedIn employees themselves.
I am very new to LinkedIn and still learning.
