We're looking for a dedicated Rapid Rehousing Advocate to join our team at Domestic Violence Services (DVS) of Lancaster County! As a Rapid Rehousing Advocate, you'll play a critical role in connecting domestic violence victims and survivors to safe, affordable permanent housing in our community. You will provide trauma-informed, client-centered supportive services and referrals, helping survivors rebuild their lives with the dignity and respect they deserve. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and awareness is crucial because a significant number of people are affected by domestic abuse and intimate partner violence. Approximately 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men experience such violence, and nonbinary individuals may face even higher rates. The impact of domestic violence extends beyond the survivors, affecting children, family members, friends, coworkers, and communities. Domestic Violence Services (DVS) of Lancaster County provides support and resources to victims and survivors, helping them seek safety, autonomy, and a life free from abuse. Despite progress, challenges persist, with limited shelter capacity due to a shortage of affordable housing. However, we move forward. We are committed to reexamining our resources, services, community partnerships and our impact — past, present and future — on how domestic violence is viewed, understood and responded to in our larger community. In an effort to improve their services and better understand survivors' needs, we conducted listening circles as part of a diversity, equity, and inclusion initiative. Surprisingly, many people, even those experiencing domestic violence, lack a clear understanding of the different forms it can take, beyond just physical abuse. Survivors emphasize the importance of warm, respectful relationships with advocates and providers and the need for cooperative partnerships and more efficient systems. They also call for healthy relationship education for children and young people. To enhance the support network for domestic violence survivors, the organization is forming an Intimate Partner Violence Community Collaborative. This collaborative will prioritize survivors, engage in community-building, advocacy, and develop more efficient response systems. It will also work on educating children and youth about healthy relationships and raising awareness that intimate partner violence comes in various forms. Our theme this year for Domestic Violence Awareness Month is, "Join the Movement." Domestic Violence Services (DVS) of Lancaster County, a program of Community Action Partnership of Lancaster County, teamed up with Lancaster City Bureau of Police to raise our voices in a unique way - through sidewalk chalk art. We created vibrant, eye-catching art that's impossible to ignore. The sidewalks may wash away, but the message will stay with us, reminding us that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience violence at the hands of a partner. Sidewalk chalk art isn't just about colors and creativity; it's about raising our voices and making a stand. We want to ensure their stories are heard, their pain acknowledged, and their strength celebrated. By creating sidewalk art and sharing it with the world, we're breaking the silence and fostering understanding. We're reminding everyone that domestic violence is a deeply rooted issue that affects many lives.
