From honoring Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with a team gathering in Chinatown to celebrating Black History Month by showcasing the achievements of Black clients, the firm’s goal is clear: to foster connections. In our inaugural message for Global Diversity Awareness Month, five partners representing the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee and our nine affinity groups share their stories and insights, illustrating how these groups help foster bonds in a demanding legal environment. The message also features authentic perspectives from professional staff and associate conveners, who emphasize the critical role of representation and creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels valued, heard and supported, regardless of their race, gender, cultural backgrounds and past experiences. Fortune featured Gunderson Dettmer client KiwiCo, Inc. for generating over $1 billion in revenue. The STEM-based toy company founded by Sandra Oh Lin in 2011, turns educational concepts into playful, hands-on experiences for kids, exemplified by products like Froggie, a plush toy designed for dissection. Sandra said, “In part, I was personally motivated to start [KiwiCo] when my two older kids were almost three and five. I really wanted them to have these hands-on experiences. It was important to me that they felt they had the agency to create.” KiwiCo has shipped more than 50 million crates to more than 40 countries and, throughout its lifespan, has designed north of 1,500 products and activities.
