How much of life happens to you?

It’s your side hustle big brother here and I want to you to think about your ‘rich life’ today.
Your rich life is a framework which you will operate from some day. It’s being lavish with your spending on things that matter and aggressively conservative on things that don’t matter.
I got this concept from Ramet Sethi many years ago from his book I Will Teach You How To Be Rich.
If you love lattes than it means you give yourself permission to lavishly spend money on $9 oat milk lattes because you love them. Even though $9 lattes are considered over priced by many. It’s your rich life - so you can lavishly spend on them.
On the flip side of that if in your rich life spending money on alcohol is not part of it that means you will aggressively make an effort to not buy cocktails. The idea is that you are very conscious on your spending habits.
People usually don’t have conscious spending habits.
I’ve been flying business class here in most of flights in Asia and from America. It’s something I envisioned in my rich life. It’s totally a splurge but because It’s part of my rich life I do it.
I spent $3K on business class tickets from Tokyo to Hawaii when I could have spent $900. By all means it’s expensive but because it’s part of my rich life I’m not looking to cut costs in this area as much as other areas.
In our travels we have not been staying at the most luxurious places money can buy. Some hotels cost over $2,000 a night! We have stayed at places ranging from $100 a night to $350 (really only in Singapore because it’s expensive af). Even though we could afford to spend a lot more money in lodging we don’t. We need a place to sleep, we want it to be quiet. We are the exploring type of traveler so we don’t usually spend too much time in hotels.
Now that you have a couple of my examples I want you to envision your rich life. Here is the cool thing - you don’t have to delay living your rich life. You can start today. Just remember - cut aggressively on things not in your rich life plan.

I believe that 90% of life is in my control and 10% is not.
If you believe the majority of your life is in your control that is called an internal locus of control. If you believe the majority of your life is not in your control this is called an external locus of control.
I’ll be straight up in telling you that you want to have an internal locus of control mindset. The other one is a terrible way to live. To believe that life is not in your control is a fundamental commonality in people that complain, people that are negative, people that are broke.
Some terrible life has happened to me personally. It was not in my control. I understand that but my belief is not shaken. I believe that I am in control of 90% of my time here on earth for as long as that maybe.
Mindset is such a hard thing to teach. I hope each newsletter allows you access inside my mind of how I think so you can take the pieces you like to adapt for yourself.
Many of us didn’t grow up in rich house holds. Access to multi-millionaires and people of great success were not in circles. At least not mine.
I’ve discovered that I can best help people who have an internal locus of control. People that have this mindset tend to be my most successful customers. After writing my book Start Thinking Rich (which releases in Oct) I learned so much about psychology from my co-author Dr. Brad Klontz. He is one of the top psychologist of wealth and learning from him was an amazing perk of writing a book together.
If you are someone who answered with numbers that are opposite of mine or very similar to each other that is ok. Awareness in how you think is the first part to understanding how to improve your mindset.
