A strong partnership between industry, law enforcement, and first responders is essential for the safe and successful deployment of autonomous vehicles. Today we're announcing our Law Enforcement & First Responder Engagement Council, a new initiative to discuss best practices, share information, and address challenges. “Public trust in AVs is essential to their acceptance. The Law Enforcement and First Responder Engagement Council will provide a valuable forum for sharing knowledge, addressing concerns, and building trust," said Jeff Farrah, CEO for the Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association. Members include law enforcement officials, first responders & AV industry reps. The industry pledged to create the Council when announcing the AVIA #TRUSTPrinciples earlier this year. New data from Waymo confirms AV safety benefits. Compared to human drivers, over 22 million rider-only miles driven through the end of June 2024, the Waymo Driver was involved in: ?? 84% fewer crashes with airbag deployment;? ?? 73% fewer injury-causing crashes; ?? 48% fewer police-reported crashes

We applaud the California Department of Motor Vehicles and Governor Gavin Newsom for releasing proposed AV regulations. This is an important step for the future of safety and supply chain resilience in California. It also underscores why AB 2286 & AB 3061 should be vetoed. Read our full statement:
