The state of Michigan is cleaning up pollution and restoring rivers by removing old, crumbling dams. The Mott-supported Great Lakes News Collaborative explores the benefits of that work.

Good Laundry, a new laundromat located inside a church on Flint’s north side, is offering residents a closer, more affordable option to help lift some of the burden of doing laundry. Organizers know that having access to clean clothes does more than boost someone’s confidence. It also helps adults secure steady employment and keep their kids in school. Residents can also access various services while waiting for their laundry, such as resume writing, tutoring and parenting classes.

In a victory for environmental justice advocates and Detroit residents, the state of Michigan rejected plans to expand a hazardous waste facility. The Great Lakes Environmental Law Center, a Mott grantee, helped represent the plaintiffs in the case.

Poor media coverage of solar power issues in Tanzania is hampering efforts to promote clean energy solutions, according to a study by a Mott-funded organization. That group is training journalists in the hope of raising public awareness.
